Hands and hearts at work: UCC Norwell's build day with SSHH
UCC Norwell had another incredible Build Day in partnership with South Shore Habitat for Humanity (SSHH). As many of you know, our church founded the South Shore chapter of HFH back in 1986. It’s an ecumenical, Christian-based, volunteer-driven organization that builds homes in partnership with families in need. SSHH sells these homes at cost with interest-free mortgages in 32 towns and cities south and southwest of Boston. It’s a powerful way to put our faith into action and demonstrate God’s love through service.
Our volunteers, aged 16 and up, participate on-site with construction and relationship-building during our Saturday Serve Days in October and March, as well as other times throughout the year, including our most recent one in June 2024. Through this work, we truly embody the spirit of “Love into Action,” building homes and forging meaningful relationships.
On June 29 in Cohasset, we accomplished quite a bit:
Completed the floor joist blocking in one of the homes
Installed lally columns in the basement
Started laying the decking
Secured the main beam in another home
Finished the floor joists on one side
These achievements are significant milestones in the construction process, but they are not the most important part. What stands out most is the way our UCC team, in partnership with South Shore Habitat, continued doing God’s work for His people in need. It’s about more than just building houses; it’s about building hope, community, and a sense of belonging.
Thank you all for your dedication, hard work, and the love you bring to these projects. Your efforts are making a real difference in the lives of families in our community, and it’s an honor to serve alongside each of you.
